When injuries occur in the backcountry, the Nordic Patroller is the one to count on in order to immobilize any injury as well as to transport the individual to awaiting local paramedics.
Accident prevention and backcountry education/public relations are a large part of what we do. The benefits of our programs reduce accident rates, especially collisions and reduced complaints from the wintering public concerning recklessness in the forest. Education and prevention are indeed becoming the Nordic backcountry patrols most important job.
Nordic patrollers also give talks to church groups, school children, and other group outings. We direct people to cross country trails, snowmobile trails. We also give them a safety talk and point out points of interest that may be of interest to them while visiting the Inyo National Forest.
